Psychology is a highly skilled field. To become a clinical psychologists you must hold an approved post-graduate degree. If you already have experience and qualifications in healthcare, particularly in the field of mental health, you may be able to do a fast-tracked degree.

There are other patient-facing roles you could work in within the field of mental health. For example, you could look into working as a mental health nurse. Alternatively, if you are a psychologist looking for a change of role, psychology research might be a better fit.

Psychologists can help patients in a range of settings. Some work within a hospital setting, others work in mental health recovery facilities dealing with inpatients or with outpatients in community settings, such as GP surgeries.

Psychology is a field that often requires a lot of patient interaction. If you are good with people and enjoy helping people face-to-face, psychology and mental health might be a good career path for you. However, psychology can be a challenging role that also requires a certain level of resilience.
