Infection Prevention & Control Nurse

On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Infection Prevention & Control Nurse to join a hospital in Westmeath. 

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse will play a vital role in developing, implementing, and monitoring infection control practices within the hospital. The successful candidate will collaborate with healthcare professionals at all levels to promote patient safety and minimise the risk of healthcare-associated infections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership: Provide expert advice on the management of infectious patients, including recommending treatment protocols and isolation procedures.
  • Surveillance and Auditing: Implement and maintain an effective infection control surveillance system, conducting regular audits of infection control practices.
  • Education and Training: Develop and deliver educational programmes for staff on infection prevention strategies, policies, and best practices.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the creation and implementation of infection prevention policies, guidelines, and procedures in line with national standards.
  • Outbreak Management: Investigate outbreaks of infection, identifying sources and modes of transmission, and implementing necessary control measures.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse microbiological data to inform clinical decision-making and improve infection control practices.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing licence.
  • Experience in infection prevention and control is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of current infection control guidelines and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate diverse groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Applicants must possess a valid work visa (Stamp 4) or EU/EEA citizenship to be eligible for this position.
